Why Position is Everything
The single most important concept in poker. Master this and you'll beat most players.
THE SIMPLE TRUTH
In poker, acting last is a huge advantage. You get to see what everyone else does before you decide. That's it. That's the secret.
Think about it like this: Would you rather bet on a horse race before it starts, or after watching most of the race? Being "in position" is like getting to peek at the results before placing your bet.

Each position has different advantages and strategies. The closer to the button, the more hands you can play profitably.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Button (BTN) is the best seat. You always act last after the flop. Play the most hands here.
- Under the Gun (UTG) is the worst. You have to act first with no information. Play only premium hands.
- Cutoff (CO) is almost as good as the button. Great for stealing blinds.
- Blinds (SB/BB) are weird — you act last preflop but first after the flop. You've already put money in, so you defend more hands than you'd normally play.
- The button moves every hand, so everyone takes turns in each position. Being aware of position is what separates winners from losers.
