STRATEGY — TRAINING GUIDE
Goal: build instant “best play” reactions. You see your hand + dealer up-card, then choose the correct action without hesitation.

Why this module matters

Counting without correct decisions still loses money. Basic Strategy is your baseline: it removes the biggest EV leaks so your results stop being random and your edge (when you earn one) actually matters.

Hand filters (what the dropdown means)

  • Mixed Hands: a balanced mix of hard totals, soft totals, and pairs — best for overall mastery.
  • Hard Totals: hands with no Ace counting as 11 (example: 10+6 = hard 16).
  • Soft Totals: hands where an Ace counts as 11 without busting (example: A+6 = soft 17).
  • Pairs Only: two cards of the same value (example: 8+8 or 10+K). These train split decisions.

How to use this to increase skill

  • Start on Mixed Hands until you can keep a long streak without thinking.
  • Then isolate weaknesses: PairsSoft TotalsHard Totals.
  • Use Rewards: Auto while learning. Switch to Standard when you want stable reps.
  • If you miss the same spot twice, stay in that filter until it becomes automatic.

Rules assumed

  • Dealer hits soft 17 (H17)
  • No surrender (for now)
  • This is a training module: the goal is correct decision-making speed.

Definitions

  • Dealer up-card: the dealer’s visible card (used for strategy).
  • Hit: take another card.
  • Stand: take no more cards.
  • Double: double your bet, take exactly one card, then stand.
  • Split: split a pair into two hands (when allowed).

Rewards + progression

Correct answers add to BJ Bank and earn BJ XP (XP is shown on the Hub only). Your Title is always shown here. Table themes auto-apply and can auto-downgrade if your bank drops.

Hint System

Stuck on a hand? Press the HINT button (or ? key) to reveal the correct move with an explanation of why it's right. Using a hint reduces your reward for that hand, but learning why is more valuable than memorizing.

When you get a hand wrong, you'll also see an explanation automatically. Take a moment to understand the reasoning before the next hand.

Keyboard

  • H = Hit, S = Stand, D = Double, P = Split
